Welcome on behalf of Iowa Chapter 5, we extend our invitation for every International Harvester Collector to participate in the 35th Annual Red Power Roundup at the Clay County Fairgrounds in Spencer, Iowa in 2024.

Fertilizer application equipment was one of his first agricultural products. Today, Demco is a leader in the agricultural industry. POLARIS Tour

The Polaris spirit can be traced back to co-founders Edgar Hetteen, his younger brother Allan and his close friend David Johnson. The hard-working trio started the forerunner of Polaris—Hetteen Hoist & Derrick—in 1945 in tiny Roseau, Minnesota. With World War II raging and metal scarce, their skill at repairing farm machinery quickly earned them loyal customers. But it was their pioneering approach to finding a better way to get to remote hunting shacks in deep snow that earned them a place in history: Our co-founders developed an early snowmobile in 1955. To prove the vehicles weren't just frivolous toys, Edgar and three friends embarked on a 1,200-mile journey across the Alaskan wilderness to demonstrate the vehicle's durability. They lugged 900 pounds of provisions on toboggans and endured minus-40 degree temperatures to complete the journey in 21 days. Their determination paid off. The machines became so popular that Polaris began manufacturing snowmobiles exclusively, which we did for many years before launching into additional product lines and services that leveraged our strengths in product development, powertrain, manufacturing, distribution and marketing.

Father Paul Matthias Dobberstein was born in Rosenfeld, Germany on September 21, 1872. He received part of his early education at the University of Deitsche-Krone in Germany. When Paul was 20 years old he immigrated to America. On coming to America he entered the Seminary of St. Francis near Milwaukee to prepare for the Priesthood. It was there that he began to show signs of unusual artistic ability that was to characterize all the waking hours of his earthly existence. He completed his studies for the Priesthood at St. Francis Seminary and was ordained there on June 30th, 1897. The story of how the Grotto came into being is as moving as are the scenes it portrays. It is generally told as a fact that as a young seminarian, Father Dobberstein became critically ill with pneumonia. As he fought for his life, he prayed to the Blessed Virgin Mary (the Mother of God) to intercede for him for the grace of health. He promised to build a shrine in her honor of he lived. The illness passed, the student completed his studies and after his ordination, he came to West Bend as Pastor in 1898. For over a decade he was stockpiling rocks and precious stones.
The actual work of giving permanence to his promise began to take shape in 1912. The designed purpose of the Grotto is to tell in silent stone made spiritually eloquent, the story of man’s fall and his redemption by Christ, the savior of the world.

The Beginning:
The Iowa Chapter of the International Harvester Collectors grew in the first 6 years from a handful of 13 which attended the first organizational meeting to a membership of 299.  
Back in 1992, Keith and Marlene Leinenweaver, after attending Red Power Roundups in Wisconsin and Ohio, felt that Iowa needed its own chapter. In order to gather the names of potential club members, they decided to display their restored F-14 at a July 4th tractor pull in Sigourney, IA along with a sign announcing the formation of the club. The ball got rolling when two other Iowans, Dennis and Paul Teubel, who had also been planning to start a state chapter, showed up at the tractor pull and were introduced to the Leinenweavers by Don Aller, Harper, IA, who was head of the tractor pull and knew of the interest of both parties.
On July 11, 1992, thirteen people attended an organizational meeting: Dennis and Paul Teubel, Keith and Marlene Leinenweaver, Jim Wilson, Mark Plotz, Steve Williams, Dan Hutchings, Lyle Brinegar and Harold, Beverly and Josh Robinson. Harold (Butch) Robinson, who was charter member of the Missouri Club, helped with suggestions and advice.
The club's first general meeting took place on August 29. 1992, at Ainsworth, with 43 persons attending. The Charter members of this organization elected a six member board of directors: James Johnson, Thomas F. Johnson, Keith Leinenweaver, Mark Plotz, Dennis Teubel and Jim Wilson. Each director was elected for a three-year term, with these first members drawing for length of term. The club, which was then officially called "Iowa Red Power", proposed to have four meetings per year held at different locations throughout the state, one of which is held at the yearly state show. The first Annual Iowa Red Power Show was held at the Central Hawkeye Antique Tractor and Engine Show, Waukee, Iowa on July 16-18, 1993.

Club Member Benefits: 
Members receive a quarterly publication, Harvester Highlights, which provides information on club business, reports from various committees, upcoming show listings, news from chapters, feature stories, restoration information and limited free publication of want and for sale ads. Insurance is provided for members at club sanctioned shows. Besides the annual summer show, there is a Winter Convention with banquet for members. An all IH auction supported by chapters in a different state each year. The club also supports displays at local farm shows. All members receive a subscription to Harvester Highlights with their membership.
